As part of its DEI commitment, AMA Southern CT is partnering with the Prosperity Foundation, an independent community organization focused on creating a unique impact in CT’s Black Communities in the areas of education, health and economics. Our Chapter recently made a donation to support the Prosperity Foundation’s current initiative to help support USDA Farmers for Families Food Distribution. AMA’s donation went towards the renting of a forklift to remove pallets from their food trucks. The first distribution effort took place in Hartford CT on Sept. 10 where 1,400 families were provided with 21-lb. boxes of fresh vegetables. With a second effort taking place in New Haven CT on Sept. 25. As access to fresh produce, dairy and meat can be scarce in communities where Black & Brown people live (in part due to the limited amount of grocery stores in these communities), this food distribution initiative is making a significant impact in these areas.
